The launch of online slots in Italy led to a 63% growth of the online casino games sector in 2013 according to a report from the University of Milan.
Online slots were launched in Italy at the end of 2012 and now represent 50% of € 240 million GGR generated in 2013 from the Italian online casino market. But the figures of the Italian online casino market are expected to improve in 2014-2015 following the decision from casino game suppliers of preventing their operators from offering games to people located in Italy through non-Italian licensed platforms.
This might create new interest for operators willing to enter into the Italian market. And the market might be attractive also for sportsbetting operators following the liberalization of the sportsbetting market as well as the launch of bets on virtual events and of betting exchange games. Finally also bingo operators are likely to be happy following the coming into force of regulations that will allow the offering of bingo variants.
