The Italian Gambling Authority has now published the data relating to April and the first quarter 2011.
The growth of the market went beyond any expectation and indeed the aggregate turnover (both online and offline) of the first quarter 2011 was of โฌ 24 bn with an increase of 18.2% if compared to the same period of last year.
The main reason of such growth was the launch of videolotteries (VLTs) that generated โฌ 989 M in the month of April and โฌ 3.2 bn during the first quarter 2011 with data that are surprising if it is considered that the VLT market is still in a start-up phase with a very limited number of installed machines if compared to the โฌ 56,697 that operators are entitled to instal. An additional growth is expected to occur as a consequence of the launch of casino and cash poker games and the award of the new remote gaming licences.
