Yesterday was a happy day for entities interested in obtaining an Italian online gaming license.
Indeed we hadย reported that the claimย brought by Stanleybet for an interim suspension of the proceeding for the issue of new Italian online gaming licenses had led the Italian Gaming Authority (AAMS) to precautionary suspend the issue of the new licenses also for the 17 entities that have already passed step 1 of the application process. In the hearing of yesterday relating to the case, Stanleybet waived its claim for the interim suspension of the licensing process that will be now decided on the merits on the 13th of December 2011.
Pending the decision on the merits, on the basis of the information currently available, AAMS decided to re-start issuing the online gaming licenses and therefore the entities that have applied for an Italian license and those that will apply by theย deadline of the end of the year are likely obtain a license and start offering their gaming in the Italian market very soon.ย
This news would be even more welcomedย if – after the decision of the European Commission on the Danish gambling law – AAMS will decide to allow the offering of online slots as well making the Italian licenses even more attractive.
