The Italian Gambling Authority has published the data relating to the Italian remote gaming market as of September 2011 and interesting information can be gained.
The most relevant data concern the recently launched games i.e. cash poker and casino games. Indeed, the turnover of cash poker games reached € 888 millions during the month of September, while the turnover of casino games increased to € 275 millions. The market leader for poker games is PokerStars with a market share of 23.98% in the cash games market and of 36.27% in the poker tournament market, while Lottomatica is the market leader with 34.35% in the casino games market.
However, further interesting information can be gained also looking at the market share of other operators. For instance William Hill that launched its platform in July 2011 and currently offers only casino games reached in few months a market share of 8.31% becoming the 4th operator in the casino games market. This shows that there are still good opportunities for late entrants in the market and entities looking at the possibility to obtain an Italian remote gaming license should still consider the Italian market as one of the primary target markets.
Finally, AAMS published also the data relating to the land based market where videolotteries reached a turnover of € 1,115 millions confirming the market analysis performed by entities now applying for an Italian VLT license.
