With more than 2 years of delay the coming into force of regulations allowing betting operators to offer events different from those set forth in the official AAMS schedule (the so called “palinsesto“) and on virtual events seems to be closer.
Indeed, the peculiarity of Italian sportsbetting regulations is that operators can offer only the events and the types of bets listed in the official AAMS schedule that also validates the relative results. As a consequence of that the competition between operators is limited only to the applicable odds, but the new regulations will allow more flexibility to operators that will be able to offer their own events different from those of competitors which might make the sector more interesting. Likewise, the launch of bets on virtual events might represent a considerable change in the market rendering the betting offering more and more attractive from players.

However, it is unlikely that such regulations will come into force before the end of Q1 2012 as the Italian gambling regulator is likely to make the draft regulations subject to the 3 months review period by the European Commission.
