The balance between the development of eGaming regulations and technologies does not seem even. ย Regulators shall speed up as technology is not going to slow down.
Here is a guest post from my friend and client, Marc Lee, that tackles the different pace of development between eGaming regulations and technologies.
Indeed, as European countries carry on their march towards egaming regulations, many are following existing models. Some pragmatic and others not. ย ย Technology on the other hand is speeding forwards at an exponential rate. ย From Data in the cloud a few years ago, to current pervasiveness of IoT and wearables. ย New products and technologies all placing a strain on the current regulations.
Technology has always been extremely disruptive and none more that in the egaming space. ย Software development companies has embraced it with games on wearables, 3D technologies to name a few.
At this moment there is only a single jurisdiction that recognises and embraces cloud technology. ย Where should the data reside? ย Should all the countries in the European Union have the ability to visit any hosting location in the EU, inspect the devices and obtain the data if required?
On the contrary technology has improved in areas like:
- Geolocation
- KYC (Know Your Customer)
- DDOS Mitigation to name a few
Technology is influencing Generation Z. ย Generation Z is mobile first and mobile only. ย They are the current and future player base. ย How well does the mobile world fit in with the regulations? Is screen size an issue? Connectivity?
Cyber security, Business Logic Attack, Crypto Currencies (all 130+ of them) are all evolving.
Each innovation places an additional layer of complexity into the egaming space and this in turn pushes against the regulations. ย How should future regulations be worded, what about current regulations? ย Could they allow and embrace new technologies. ย Is this humanly possible?
