DLA Piper and AIGI will run an event on how the General Data Protection Regulation will impact the business of companies on 16 February 2017. The new European privacy regulationย (GDPR) will require a radical change in the approach to data protection compliance, introducing entirely new obligations and making even the current requirements considerably more burdensome, with changes that will have a significant impact on the technical and organizational structure of companies.
The change in the perspective with respect to privacy compliance will be mainly dictatedย from the applicable penalties that will be considerably increased and will reach an amount equal to โฌ 20 million, orย 4% of the worldwide turnover of the entity which commits the violation, whicheverย of the two is more magnificent. A further consequence is that the management and the head of legal departments of companies could be subject to liability claims byย shareholders if they have not adopted the measures necessary to ensure compliance of the company with the new regulations.
All this happens in a period when companies are facing an important digitization process, which, by their nature, entails greater processing of personal data and in a period when cyber risks are becoming a major threat.
The European Data Protection Regulation provides the tools to limit potential risks andย protect companies from potential liabilities, but their adoptionย requires a deep review by a specialized team and is considerably time-consuming.
I published a series of blog posts on the hottest issues deriving from the General Data Protection Regulation, which are available here. But here is the opportunity to discuss (in Italian) about the GDPR in detail together also with the legal counsels of other major companies since the event is arranged with the AIGI, the Italian Association of Inhouse Counsel.
