The data of Italian online gaming market for 2017 show that the GGR has considerably grown across most of the games.
There are still not official data on the Italian online gaming market for 2017, but according to unofficial sources, it was a very good year.
Almost +30% for online casino
The aggregate GGR for the Italian online casino and poker markets in 2017 reached € 720 million with an increase of 24.3% if compared to 2016. This was driven mainly by casino games that reached a GGR of € 567 million with an increase of 29.2%, if compared to the last year.
Sportsbetting is becoming a rising star
2017 is the year in which the Italian online sportsbetting almost doubled its GGR of 2016. A GGR of € 555 million was reached just in the Italian online sportsbetting market which shows an increase of over € 200 million (if compared to 2016) and a turover of € 5.6 billions which represents 56% of the whole sportsbetting market. Also, interestingly soccer represented “only” 75% of bets, while 10 years ago it generated 92% of the whole sportsbetting market.
This comes as no surprise since the full liberalization of the Italian sportsbetting market has attracted a large number of players to Italian licensed platform from .COM platforms.
Time to enter in the Italian online gaming market?
The data referred above are made available with the good timing since after 4 years with no licenses available, the tender for new Italian online gaming licenses has now been launched and there is time up to the 19th of March 2018 to submit applications.
120 online gaming licenses are available, but these are awarded on a first come first served basis. Therefore it is necessary to speed up the process in order to avoid to be left out.
