As anticipated, the Italian gambling authority (AAMS) has just launched a call for tenders for the award of 2,000 new betting shop licenses.
The requirements for the award of the licenses provide a starting auction price of โฌ 11,000 per license and the entities applying for the license shall be a company based in a country of the European Economic Area and hold therein a gaming license for the operation of at least one of the types of games regulated by AAMS. Likewise, the technical infrastructure dedicated to the offering of the games shall be located in a country of the European Economic Area. Therefore as now provided for remote gaming licenses, even foreign entities that do not have any company or infrastructure in Italy will be able to participate to the auction.
The deadline for the filing of the offers is the 6th of October 2012 at 10 am and consequently companies interested in participating to the procedure shall hurry up.
This might be an interesting opportunity also for new entrants in the market even because regulations allow betting shop to install also videolottery machines in their premises that might bring an additional money entrance.
