€ 226 million of GGR achieved by the Italian online casino market in 2013 are expected to double if following the potential new approach from casino game suppliers a substantial portion of the current black market will migrate to licensed websites. And this circumstance together with the launch of additional products under the refreshed gaming law regime is creating a new interest for the Italian remote gaming market. But the process to obtain an Italian remote gaming license is more complicated than expected.

Italian players can now bet through Italian licensed platforms and betting shops on the same types of bets and events offered on foreign licensed platforms because of gaming law changes setting the playfield for a substantial growth for the Italian sportsbetting market. 

The Italian gambling regulator has now confirmed that they are considering to oblige also online game suppliers to hold an Italian remote gaming license in order to offer their games to Italian residents as a gaming law measure to fight against the black market.
